Nothing screams summer more than a warm, balmy evening sitting outside watching a movie and munching on candy and popcorn while sitting in your car or on a blanket surrounded by family and friends. The nostalgic days of enjoying a drive-in movie theater close to home are almost over, but a few still remain in Florida to bring that sense of wholesome family entertainment to your summer. So while you’re out and about during your summer road-trippin’, stop off at one or a few of these vintage gems and enjoy summer the way it was meant to be - on the big screen.

OUTDOOR MOVIES


MoviEola – Lake Eola Park, Orlando MoviEola is a free monthly outdoor movie event on the last Friday of each month from May – August. The evening starts with pre-movie fun at 6 p.m. in Lake Eola Park, followed by the movie at 8:15 p.m. Food and drink are available for purchase, and leashed pets are welcome.


Leu Gardens Movie Night – Harry P. Leu Gardens, Orlando Popular for date nights, Leu Gardens shows an outdoor movie the first Friday of most months. Most titles are rated PG-13n and geared toward adults - so the children might want to stay home. Outside food and alcohol are permitted, but food trucks and on-site vendors are also available. The gardens open at 6 p.m., with movies usually beginning at 8 p.m.


Popcorn Flicks in the Park – Central Park, Winter Park Presented in conjunction with the Enzian Theatre, this year-round free monthly event takes place in Central Park and typically highlights classic films.


Cranes Roost Sunset Cinema – Cranes Roost Park, Altamonte Springs Cranes Roost Sunset Cinema is a free outdoor movie event held in Altamonte Springs and occurring on select Saturdays throughout the summer. Movies are screened on the lawn in front of the Plaza tower.


Food Trucks & Movie in the Park – Bill Breeze Park, Ocoee At Bill Breeze Park in Ocoee, free family-friendly movies are screened once a month on a Friday evening along with a host of local food trucks. The event kicks off at  6 p.m. and the movie begins at 8:30 p.m.


Family Movie Night – Old Town, Kissimmee Sunday evenings June – August at Old Town in Kissimmee come down and enjoy family-friendly movies that range from classics to newer releases. Movies are screened in the South Entertainment Area and be sure to bring your own blanket, chair, and munchies!
