On a Roll With Bike Donations

After reading about the 7th Day ReCYCLEry in our January/February issues,Altamonte-Wekiva Springs Life and Lake Mary Life readers have donated more than 60 bicycles to the bike repair and donation charity run by Longwood residents Russ Durham and Rowland Kenna.

Donations have been collected from readers just North of State Road 46 down to Maitland and in Oviedo, Heathrow, Fern Park, Longwood, Altamonte Springs, and the Sweetwater area. The 7th Day ReCYCLEry team will fix up every donated bike and give it to a neighbor in need. Most bikes go to men at the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida who are in the process of rebuilding their lives. The bikes provide essential transportation to help those facing homelessness find and keep jobs, access healthcare, and connect with a support network of family or friends.

Russ and Rowland are also tremendously excited to have recently formed new partnerships with the Christian Service Center and Kids House of Seminole. And with such an overwhelming amount of bike donations, they’ve had the opportunity to share their bikes with other local bike ministries.

To better promote their charity and improve bike collection and delivery, Russ and Rowland recently purchased a used van and customized it with their 7th Day ReCYCLEry logo. They’ve also created T-shirts, which they give to the men who help volunteer at Bike Days at the Coalition for the Homeless.

Big plans continue for this generous duo as they look into partnerships with even more bike-related community programs. Please check the 7thDayReCYCLEry page on Facebook for more information, and keep an eye out for a new website coming soon!
