This week while picking up Mother’s Day cards for my mother and mother-in-law, I picked up an extra card for my incredible boss, Sheila, because I am grateful for her each day and especially around Mother’s Day. I’m grateful for an understanding woman who allows me the freedom to fulfill my own role as mom to my three sons.
Since becoming Associate Publisher for Altamonte-Wekiva Springs Life three years ago, Sheila’s support of me being present in my kids’ daily lives while working has made a significant impact on my family. She has given me the flexibility to grow professionally while still being there for all the big and little motherhood moments, because she gets that life is too short to miss the good stuff.
I’ll never forget Sheila telling me that as my kids grow, I can grow with the magazine, which I have. And it has been a gift.
Today, I attended a Muffins for Mom breakfast with my three-year-old son followed by an afternoon Mother’s Day Tea with my eight-year-old son. (Sadly, my oldest son, 10, has graduated on from these special events. Sniff.) And today, more priceless memories have been made.
Thanks to Sheila, I haven’t missed many holiday or class parties. I haven’t missed any school programs, or field trips, or helping out in the classroom. Thanks to my boss, I won’t look back and say that I missed any little bit of my little boys growing up because my job got in the way.
So Sheila, on this Mother’s Day and every day, thank you for giving me the most precious gift of all: time to be a mom.
